Why I switched from Canon to Sony
4 reasons why I switched from Canon Cinema cameras and lenses to Sony’s FX6 and G-Master gear.
1. Autofocus Technology
Sony’s industry-leading Eye AF and Real-Time Tracking make it significantly more reliable for solo operators and fast-paced shoots than Canon’s Dual Pixel AF, especially for face detection in unpredictable environments.
2. Compact & Lightweight Design
The FX6 is smaller and lighter than most Canon Cinema cameras, making it a better choice for handheld, gimbal, and drone work. It offers less fatigue and more flexibility.
3. Internal ND System
The FX6 features a continuous variable ND filter, allowing seamless exposure control without changing filters. Canon’s step-based ND systems feel outdated in comparison.
4. Seamless Integration with Mirrorless Ecosystem
Sony’s FX6 works flawlessly with Alpha cameras like the A7S III and FX3, making it easier to match footage across different setups. Canon’s mirrorless and cinema systems often feel disjointed.
